Bertagni is 10 bedroom estate nestled in the Hill’s above Castelnuovo in theGarfagnana region North of Lucca, where it enjoys peace and tranquility andcommands spectacular views of mountains and the village below.

Set in sixty acres of forest, fields and hills, the Estate consists of a farmhouse and the original major part of this Medicea Villa dating back to the fifteen century, once the residence of a noble family, famous for their grand life and style. The Villa has been restored to the highest standard, leaving most of its original features.
The Main Villa
Driving up to the Villa, or landing on it’s own helicopter pad one passes the pool, fountain and eighteen century Grotto.Crossing the landscaped gardens, passing a terrace you enter double aspect doors into a Grand Baronian hall. Twenty eight columns and arches form a Gallery surrounding the first floor, with mellow light filtering through a frosted glass ceiling,embraced in wrought iron work. All is enhanced by a Chandelier in the center giving a feeling of sheer opulent decadence.

Downstairs to the left there is a study-television room with home video and satellite television, double French doors to terrace outside, then across hall into a luxurious dining room leading to a kitchen with double French doors to the terrace.Once outside, a Gazebo encloses a table for dinner under the stars. Back across the hall and passing a small cloakroom,then up on an open staircase on to the gallery, to the left you find a laundry room and walking across into a double bedroom with the most superb large bathroom. Continue on passing double French doors to a balcony with wonderfulviews over the pool, grotto and garden to a smaller bedroom and shower room. At the same floor there is another small double bedroom with it’s own shower room.

Continue going up the stairs entering through double aspect glass French doors you step into a large orangerie with a terra cotta divided glass floor and above the glazed roof you look into the sky. Across this you will find a double bedroom with a grand Roman style shower-room all in travertine marble. Back in the orangerie two arches lead to a big bedroom and a hallway with large picture windows and panoramic views over the garden and mountains there you will find the most exclusive roman jacuzzi bathroom all in cream travertine marble. Bedroom and the bathroom have splendid views over garden, fountain, pool and mountains.

The main villa can accomodate up to 8 people in 4 bedrooms. In the same Estate just beside the villa but separated by a fence and gate there is the three apartment Farmhouse that can accomodate in total 12 guests so in case can be rented together with main villa for up to 20 guests.

The Farm House
General Information
One of the 18th Century farm houses has been converted into three luxury Apartments. Set between huge terraces and gardens and with its own pool. The house has been renovated to the highest standard without losing its originality.
All of the apartments have beamed ceilings, living room, two double bedrooms, kitchen and bathroom with all accessories.satelite tv and shared laundry.The farmhouse has it’s own private pool shared by the guests of three aparments Pucci, Tosca, Aida. The three apartments can be rented as one sleeping 12 or 20 including the Villa.

Up just few stairs, with a small balcony, this flat has particularly high cealings with original wooden beams.The entrance into a large hall which leads to the living room with open fire place, kitchen, 2 double bedrooms and one
shower room.

The Farmhouse
Aida Apartment
Crossing it’s own large terrace this ground floor apartment with double patio doors leading to a large living /dining room,two big arches one forming a kitchen included of all facilities, the other a double sleeping area with a sofa bed and it’s own private shower room. Another big double bedroom, patio doors to terrace and bathroom with all accessories.

History of the Estate
In its prime, the Estate was totally self sufficient, with the farmhouses used for making cheese, honey, a trout farm, animal storage and vineyards. It is said that the Villa was built on solid, granite rock where there was once a house dating back to Roman times. All of this is set amidst the “Apuaner Alpes” nature park famous for its funghi porcini and wild game in the autumn months.

Please Note: The owner when the villa is rented lives in a small annex beside the villa, he is a very charming person and very respectful of client’s privacy. As he speaks English very fluently; he will become very useful for assistance.
